Belvedere Holidays now offers South African polo holidays at one of the most beautiful polo clubs in the world. With professional coaching within a short reach of Cape Town, you will also find world class facilities and spectacular views – in the heart of the area’s wine lands.

The main professional polo coach has a wealth of international and local experience in schooling, coaching and playing and is an expert as well as enthusiastic tutor for polo improvement from basic to advanced levels. He is particularly passionate about improving riding skills – if the horse accounts for more than 75% of the game – then it logically follows that improved horsemanship and control will get you to the ball more often – “it’s the easiest way to increase your handicap, not to mention your enjoyment!”.

Facilities :

• 2 full size international standard polo fields
• Practice field
• Sand Track
• Wooden Horse
• 64 Stables
• Clubhouse with cash bar

Non players are welcome to picnic and enjoy a day out in the countryside, or visit the local wineries and other attractions. Tours with specialist guides are available on request. Accommodation is available in the nearby towns of Paarl and Franschhoek. The focus is on low-goal “lifestyle” chukkas, ideal for practicing and perfecting skills learnt during lessons. After chukkas there is always time for ‘post mortem’ discussions and to meet up with local regular players whose handicaps range from -1 to 2 goals.

Full day coaching with 2 chukkas – available Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday – R1700, 00 per person.

Half day coaching – available Tuesday & Thursday – R800,00 without chukkas or R1300,00 with 2 chukkas, per person.

Additional chukkas are available at * R490,00 per chukka per person. These must be booked and paid for in advance. (* discounted rate on chukkas when booked with lessons)

Riding lessons or an accompanied ride around the Estate – R200,00 per hour. Includes horse, experienced instructor, riding helmet and chaps. Not available during chukkas.

A Full Day will typically include:

Morning: - 9.00 – 12.00
• Meet in the club house for introductions, theory and discussion with tea and coffee
• Wooden Horse
• Horsemanship and Riding for Polo
• Stick and Ball practice
• Evaluation and discussion

Afternoon: - 4.00 – 7.00 pm
• Tactics with foot mallets
• Afternoon chukkas (2 chukkas included)
• Introduction to umpiring
• Post Mortem evaluation and discussion
• A half day – (without chukkas), will be spent on the wooden horse improving your polo swing, practicing maneuvers with hand mallets, horsemanship for polo and stick and ball practice

A half day with 2 chukkas will be similar to the afternoon activities on a full day with time prior to chukkas spent either with foot mallets and theory and/or on the wooden horse. The above is merely a guide line; the time spent on each activity will be tailored to rider/player fitness and ability. Groups are kept small – (maximum of 6) to allow for personal attention from the coach. The quoted rates are all per person and based on a minimum of 3 participants, you may be joined by other students for some or all of the days, however our group size is a maximum of 6.

Rates include:
• Coaching
